Dark Sky Observing and Etiquette

Many of us drive for hours to get to a true dark sky site like the GSSP so preserving the pristine sky by banning the use of green laser pointers is a good rule.
As an example, the Oregon Star Party has banned green lasers for several years, with the exception of the one used for the officially sanctioned constellation program for one hour during evening twilight. Even though the sky isn’t fully dark the beam is highly visible throughout the observing field and annoys many who aren't part of the constellation program.
