Hi, I have a question about food. Will there be any availible on the site? Or should we make sure to pack it all in? I saw on the site that there will be a BBQ....should we pre-register for this? Did I just miss the info on the site? If you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Karen,

We have both a Saturday Night and Sunday Night BBQ. You can sign up for these, at $15 a piece when you register for GSSP. I don't see that you've registered yet, but when you do so, there will be a section for meals and tee-shirts on the registration form.

Last year, we also had a Monday night hamburger BBQ for which we paid on site. No word yet on whether that will happen again. Also, the GSSP volunteer staff puts on a free pancake breakfast on Tuesday Morning. You can pack a bunch of food, but there is also Adin Supply in Adin (Deli and Market) and a supermarket 15 minutes away in Macarthur. There's also a great burger place in Adin.

I think the place you refer to 15 minutes away is in Beiber, not McCarthur (which is a significantly longer drive).

For groceries, there's Ray's Supermarket in Fall River Mills on Hwy 299 E, on the way to the GSSP. In Big Valley there's the Big Valley Market. Closer to GSSP is Adin General Supply in town, and Juniper Junction just as you go in to Adin. It's a gas station/convnience store type of place.

And, of course, there's *THE RED BARN*,located at the junction of Hwy 299 and the road you turn off to go to the GSSP site. If they don't have it, you probably don't need it. That's the truth!

There's been some talk by Steve, owner of Adin General Supply, that he will be serving a buffet-type breakfast during the days of the GSSP. I can personaly vouche that his Sunday buffets are excellent! Let's hope he does this.

What's the water situation at the site? Do I need to bring a big container, or is there water available on site?

I can get by with beer, but it makes it hard to wash up in the morning.

Washing with old beer is actively discouraged.

I recommend bringing your own water. The shower truck has water on board; but you want to be self contained for drinking and cooking.

I can make water and ice runs daily into Fall River for anyone who can get me their containers. We're setting up on Pixel Path and have an 18" Newtonian on a fork, (so you can regcognize us).

Does anyone know the name or source of that silver insulated sun shade material that a number of folks used last year? Can't seem to find it at normal tarp suppliers sites.

Hi,
First time for us. I'm unclear about
the food. Can you please clarify so we know
what to bring or buy on the way in?

We reserved Sunday night BBQ.

Will there be a Saturday night BBQ? None on
booking page, but it is mentioned above.

Will there be buffet breakfast mentioned above - is that
on site or short drive away?

Hi Peter,

We originally had a Saturday BBQ, but it was moved to Monday night because of a delay in receiving tables and chairs as well as competing options taking place in town.

At the site, we'll have Sunday night BBQ, Monday night BBQ, and Tuesday night Burgers (available for purchase on Tuesday). We'll also have free pancakes on Tuesday AM.

In town, there are three places to eat; Adin supply for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Oney's Frosty for lunch and dinner and the gas station, which has a food counter.

Adin supply has a selection of groceries, but the largest grocery store in the area is fifteen minutes west in the town of Macarthur. With those choices, you can decide what to bring... having plenty of liquids is recommended at a minimum.

Another question related to the BBQ. This will be my first year at GSSP. Do you know if there will be any vegetarian options at the BBQ or know who I might be able to get more info about it at?

Sorry, there are no vegetarian options at the BBQ.. It is, after all, a cattle ranch... They have nice sides, but they aren't sold separately.

I would suggest checking out Adin Supply in town for other options.
